king size

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

For the past two years I’ve been trying to convince the hubs that it’s time for us to grow up to a king size mattress.  So far he has been resisting and it’s probably because he knows that a king size mattress means a king size bed frame, new bedding and most of all a king size price tag.  I might need to tap into my crafty genes to make an affordable headboard rather than purchasing a whole bed frame. Luckily the WWW is full of inspiration. I’ll be keeping track of my finds on a new Pinterest board titled “Sweet Dreams”. Here’s a little taste, follow more here.

Bed frames in “popover” pattern from Studio Bon.

Black rope poster bed. Bedroom design by Tilton Fenwick.

Glamorous mirrored bed frame from Angie Hranowsky Design.

Coral and white tufted head board from Meredith Heron Design.

Lovely “jaipur” pattern bed frame from Serena and Lily.

raksha bella sale!!

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Raksha Bella, one of my all time favorite textile designers for insanely gorgeous bedding is having a ridiculous sale starting today 7/29 through Sunday 7/31 with up to 50% off of EVERYTHING!! This is madness people! Get on it now! I feel a little like Crazy Eddie from those old electronics commercials.  Seriously though, I adore Raksha Bella’s line of 100% organic wood-block print textiles and I’m never one to pass up a great deal or miss an opportunity to share one with you!

I realize this is beginning to look suspiciously like a baby blog lately and not a design blog but everything has gotten so hip for kids these days that I believe even if you don’t have kids you can appreciate these things.

The latest adorable designs come via sisters Cristina and Genevieve Burgess from Canada who recently launched Auggie, a line of bedding for kids. Sizes range from crib to queen (I guess I won’t be upgrading to a king bed anytime soon) and includes decorative pillows and quilts.  See more from Auggie and buy online here.

Thanks to Oh Joy for the heads up on Pinterest about this.

mark your calender – plover organic sale!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Good stuff.

You may remember my love letter to Plover Organic awhile back? Well now they’ve given me even more reason to be a Plover lover.  I just got word that Plover Organic is gearing up for a HUGE Online SALE! On August 4th, 5th and 6th all non-sale items will be 50% off! That means you can find fantastic deals on their block-printed, vintage inspired bedding, throw pillows, fabric and table-top accessories.  If that isn’t good enough news already, they will also give 1% of the proceeds to the National Wildlife Federation to help clean up the tragic oil spill in the Gulf.  You better check it out before I snatch up all the good stuff!

john robshaw 2010

I am dying over the Spring 2010 John Robshaw catalog.  John “I-Caught-the-Asia-bug” Robshaw is originally from Buffalo, NY, like me. Maybe we can be friends? Or maybe he’ll take me to India with him on his next trip? A girl can dream right?

it’s what’s inside that counts

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I just received the prettiest block print baby quilt in the mail the other day from my friend Kerry.  Kerry is currently living in Hong Kong with her husband and darling baby girl Sofia and she’s pregnant with her second baby who is due the same week as me!  It was pretty exciting to get something all the way from Hong Kong for our baby, thanks Kerry!

After carefully placing the quilt in the soon to be revealed nursery, I had to look up where she found this sweet quilt to see what other beautiful items they might carry. Turns out the boutique INSIDE is filled with lovely, unfussy items from soft bedding for babies and adults to soft furnishings for the home, mostly sourced from India.

Knowing my friend Kerry is also a big fan of the soft block prints of Kerry Cassill it wasn’t surprising that she found this quilt at INSIDE.  I apologize in advance for enticing you with all of these gorgeous items when I’m not even sure they will ship to the U.S.! You can contact them here to find out about ordering.

the baby post

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I have been waiting a long time for the day when I could share this news with the blog world…the hubs and I are expecting our first baby in January! I promise this will not become a baby blog but there are so many wonderful things that I have been saving up to share with you for when this day finally came.  Since I know many of you are Moms, I hope you’ll enjoy this post as much as I did putting it together!

P.S. If you have any recommendations for things you couldn’t live without when you had your baby, please write to me. I am a sponge right now for information!

I’m so glad Irene from Bloesem took a break from her blogging sabbatical to share the gorgeous designs of Santiago, Chile based textile designer Karen Barbé.  Karen designs screen printed cotton tiles and then sews them together to create beautiful quilts, duvet covers and pillows.  Keep track of Karen and her latest lovely designs through her blog.  She is working to develop an online shop too so that those of us up North can someday wrap ourselves in one of her cozy creations.  I’ll let you know when her shop is live!

I am in love with this bevy of beautiful bedding from Designers Guild UK.  It’s hard to not salivate over these luxurious 100% cotton block printed quilts in perfect pastels. Complicating matters, they are 50% off right now.  I’m going to measure my bed right now to see if one will fit, fingers crossed!

P.S. Don’t you love the upholstered headboards too!
