mabo kids

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

I am in love with Mabo, a new line of children’s clothing by local Salt Laker Emily McMaster.  When Emily had her first daughter Ruby, that’s her in the adorable tweed jumper below, she fell in love with dressing her and began making clothes for her.  She quickly realized there was a market for comfortable, quality clothing with classic lines in contemporary playful designs. Voila, Mabo was born!

All of the designs are made here in the good ol’ U.S. of A by a group of women who own a small manufacturing company up in Washington.   Recently Mabo has partnered with an organization called Global Artisans here in SLC. They train refugees to be artisans – weavers, knitters, seamstresses – and sell their goods to give them self-sufficiency and some extra income. Mabo has found a very enthusiastic audience so stay tuned for new designs in knits and cottons coming soon.

Become a fan of Mabo on Facebook to keep up to date on their latest news.

hansel from basel

I love wearing tights in Winter and not just because they help keep my tummy sucked in. The design team of Hansel from Basel (cute name), based in Los Angeles where it’s hardly ever cold enough for tights, has somehow mastered the art of making sensible tights look stylish and unique.  Starting at $18 for a pair they are selling like hot cakes so get them while they’re still available!

This bag of theirs is pretty zippy too.

tickled pink knits

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

This has been the most amazing Indian summer in SLC! It’s been blue skies and mid-60′s everyday. Which is only making me dread the long cold winter that’s to come.  Luckily there are these soft and snugly neck warmer/scarves from Tickled Pink Knits to make the winter bearable.  I really like the variety of chunky shapes, Autumn colors and cozy materials New York based designer Elena users in her knits. Elena has a big selection of her knits to choose from at this Etsy shop and that Etsy shop.  And for your DIY’ers she offers patterns of her most popular designs here.

sequoia handbags

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

It’s time for me to retire the old diaper bag and step back into the world of fashionable handbags.  I’m lusting after one of these Sequoia handbags from Paris.  They have some really gorgeous styles and a range of materials to choose from; from a mama-friendly and more affordable nylon to a high-end and less affordable snakeskin.  If you live in the Bay Area you can see them in person at Green Apples in Sausalito.

I want this bomber jacket for Fall. Lauren MoffattThe Family Tartan Bomber Jacket“, $390.

david yurman

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I have often admired David Yurman’s jewelry on other women but have considered it too chunky for myself. That is, until I saw Julia Roberts sporting this ring on the cover of Elle magazine last month.  I’m a huge JR fan. My sisters all have a love/hate relationship with her and that mouth of hers can really bug people which is exactly how I feel about Keira Knightley’s mouth. Man, that mouth has ruined many a movie for me.  But I think JR is gorgeous and has become more beautiful the older she’s gotten.  I thought she was effervescent in Eat. Pray. Love even if the movie couldn’t hold a candle to the book.  In any case I thought this ring looked smashing on her and now I want a piece of David Yurman jewelry!

Chic.

The navy dress, the giant flower pin, the slim brown belt and the little leather clutch are all part of the EmersonMade clothing and accessories collection.  I’m loving the chic cropped tweed blazers, flared jeans and pocket skirts for Fall.  Now if only rolling around on the living room floor with a 7 month old were an appropriate place to wear these fashions, I’d be stocking my closets with them.
