I have been amazed by the artistry of the woodcut and linocut printing techniques ever since learning about them in an art history class in college. I’m fascinated by the work it takes to gouge out an intricate design in wood or in the case of a linocut, linoleum, a much easier surface to carve into than wood. These skeletal botanical linocuts by artist Angie Lewin are soft, flowing and delicate. If any of you have ever tried to tear up old linoleum in your kitchen or bathroom then you know how difficult it must be to carve out such delicate patterns with the level of detail and beauty that Angie achieves with her prints. You can see more of her work on her website or purchase online through St. Jude’s Gallery in the UK.
