This is random but I had to share. I have about 20 of these shoe boxes from the Container Store and they are the best way to store your shoes. You can buy a case of 20 for $30 or each for $1.79. They are clear so you can see your shoes easily and they stack nicely on top of each other. They have revolutionized my closet!
These Holly Aiken bags in various sizes are very hip and a little bit retro. She offers a nice selection of bright colors and bold shapes to make her bags stand out. Prices range from $62-$128.
Ann Wood makes birds, daily. The birds are made in small quantities with vintage and antique fabrics, some of which come from antique wedding gowns. She has started making wedding cake toppers too. The birds are stuffed with wool and are only 3 1/2 inches high. They sell out immediately since they have become collector items but you can sign up for email notification, about $44 each.
People loved the aprons I posted a few weeks back from the Curiousity Shoppe, so here’s some more from Etsy seller Tree Fall Design. Miss Manda also makes cute patchwork pillows and tote bags. Prices range from $32 to $60.
So I would love a designer handbag but I can’t really afford to swing it right now since I’d rather have new windows and doors on my house. I was searching ebay and wondering how I could make it work when I stumbled on the site Bag Borrow or Steal. They have all the big designer names from Kooba to Fendi and you can borrow the bag for as long as you want. The catch is that its still pricey at $95 a week or $275 a month for the big names. But they also have the option to buy the bag which if you’re paying $275 a month you might as well own it. It’s also a good idea if you need a fancy handbag for a fancy party and you can’t afford $1200 for a Chanel clutch, $95 a week doesn’t sound so bad.
J.Crew has some new duds for Spring. I love their dress selection this season, especially the full skirts. I’m not really sure who can pull off the muu muu dress, but it looks cute on the model and might be nice for an outdoor summer concert. My favorite is the yellow playa dress, which would be perfect for Quinn’s May wedding!
The company Duffy London takes canvas that they digitally print on, stretch it over a frame and light it from within with small flourescent lights. I think the chandeliers look cool and hip. They have other prints that can be used for the glo frame as well and they have a line of handprinted funky wallpaper, see below.
Our friend Sean Ivery is the #1 fan of the Discovery Channel show “Deadliest Catch” and now we’re hooked on it too. It’s a documentary style show that follows a group of fisherman and their boats in the treacherous Bering Sea during Alaskan king crab season. The crews have to contend with deadly weather conditions but the payoff is big if they bring in a huge catch that season and that’s where the drama begins, danahnah.
Anyway one of the crew members is actually a highly accomplished photographer named Corey Arnold. He’s the young guy down in front in the pic with the crabs. You can purchase a few of his photos over at Beholder or contact him directly from his website where he has a larger selection.
My favorite place for art has just launched a series of limited edition prints! Check out Velocity Art & Design for the first prints of this series by Matte Stephens and Ashley Godlberg. Each print is a lithograph on heavyweight paper stock, a numbered edition of 100 and hand signed by the artist. Also extremely affordable at $50 a print!
With the ban of the plastic bag in San Francisco we’ll be seeing a lot more canvas bags at the grocery store. Here’s a stylish option by Anya Hindmarch, who is better known for her gazillion dollar celeb-toting purses. This $10 canvas cotton bag will be available in the US in June (it’s already sold out in the UK). Sign up on her website to be notified of the US launch.
We had 12 friends over for dinner on Friday night and I realized I had a serious shortage of places for everyone to sit. We have an enormous coffee table that everyone can sit around so something short would be ideal. I am checking out these Moroccan poufs over at Authentic Morocco. They are $64.99 and I could steal my friend Maglie’s idea and stuff it with my old clothes!
Anthropologie has this gorgeous handmade needlepoint ottoman but at $348 it’s not really an option.
I just found this cool company Zafu Designs, they make meditation gear that would make nice seating. I could use a daily meditation practice, so these could serve more than one purpose and at $49, they’re reasonable. They also carry yoga gear and their pillows come it lots of colors.
The Brooklyn based boyfriend/girlfriend team behind Hayden-Harnett make fabo to-die-for bags. They also make clothing, like these 60’s style babydoll dresses. I am so in love with their Beatrice bag (the brown floral) but it’s sold out, arrghhh! Go lust here: Hayden-Harnett.
My Mom has always said Nordies had the best shoe selection and she’s right. I really like the patent leather offerings. They’re a great Spring style but I’m not sure how long this trend will last so get em while they’re hot!
Apparently I should be banned from the Solstice Sunglass store since I just bought my 2nd pair of lavish Oliver Peoples sunglasses from them last week. The saleslady need only says things like “handmade”, “one-of-a-kind” and “sunglasses are the only accessory that are actually good for your health” and money pours out of my pocket! I wanted something glamorous this time since my other sunglasses are so sporty. I went with the Candice (above) and I also have the Aero by OP as well (below).
I’ve got the Monday blues. These mini paintings by Alena Hennessy perked me up. Alena’s dream-like paintings are a mixture of acrylic, watercolor pencil and epoxy resin. I like the simplicity and soft colors. You can buy them over at Beholder a great online art gallery located in San Francisco. They are $140 each.
Wren Eleven is a very cute online boutique suppporting independent artists and craftspeople. Being that it is named after the little wren bird she has lots of bird related items. Here’s a little sampling of things she has to offer: enamel bird plaques, colorful wallets and a silver seagull necklace.
The exceptionally talented artist Holly Farrell from Ontario, Canada makes even soap look elegant. She has a way of making you look at a familiar object and ponder the story behind it. I would love to have any of her pieces in my make-believe beach house. Take a look at her site for more beautiful still-life paintings. This 4 piece set is available for $2000.
Cul De Sac is the online gallery for Vancouver ceramic artist Laura McKibbon. Her work is available in a variety of colors and images. I like the gun dish, it’s so unexpected.
When my grandparents downsized and moved into an assisted living condo a few years ago my Dad went through their things and picked some choice items for each of us kids. For some reason I ended up with all my Grandma Jean’s hostess aprons and a bunch of white car washing rags from my Grandpa Harold. Hmmm wonder what that means? Anyway you can get your very own vintage inspired hostess apron ($20 a pop) at The Curiosity Shoppe.
Check out these sweet limited edition prints by Etsy seller Ashley White Jacobsen. They are digital “paintings” printed on matte paper which makes them really affordable $15-20. She also makes original paintings on canvas if you’re looking for something more traditional. For you baby Mama’s these would be perfect for your kids room.
The fine women over at Give Simple are offering you, my Little Willow reader, a discount! Just use the code WILLOW (all caps) to receive 10% off any Give Simple purchase now through Mothers Day (May 13th). They have some really cute items and great gift ideas for Moms, love these t-shirts. Thanks Give Simple!
I love this Guster video for their song “One Man Wrecking Machine” with the plush monsters from Monster Factory. Kevin (love his socks) and Emmitt (love the tats) are my faves but there are so many great characters to choose from, they’re like cabbage patch kids for grown ups!
